This stone is a naturally mined sapphire that is likely heated and is from Madagascar.
Nearly All Coloured Sapphires are Heated, But Heating Does NOT Turn a Bad Stone Good. Heating Only Brings Out the Colour & Clarity that was Already in the Corundum Crystal by Heating it Above the Temperature that the Inclusions Boil at. Corundum usually contains rutile &/or chromite, both of which contribute to the colour if broken down with heat. Rutile contains the Titanium needed with Iron to make blue, while Chromite contains the Chromium needed to make Red.
Purple Corundum/Sapphire is one of the rarest colours in nature, and even most heated stones can only be called Blue or Red. A Purple Sapphire is my highest recommendation for a truly special stone.
